Do you have a talent in writing? Are you interested in wildlife and environmental conservation? If you are, we are delighted to announce the ASiS International Essay Writing Competition 2022! We are back for our 12th consecutive year with a different theme and exceptional prizes.
The theme of this year’s competition is CONSERVING OUR MARINE HERITAGE: SEA TURTLES – A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE which is the 12th of its series since it was first launched in 2011. This competition aims to expose school students from Malaysia as well as those from overseas, to the concept of nature conservation and its natural resources on a global scale.
Next, this environmental online essay writing competition is organised by Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah (Alam Shah Science School or ASiS), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This year, we will be collaborating again with the International Centre of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia with the support of the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

The competition will be officially launched online on Monday, 20th June 2022 by Mrs. Faridah Binti Yang Razali, the Director of Management Sector of Fully Residential Schools Management Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia. This included a welcome address by the school principal, Mr. Jasmi Bin Md. Isa, and a keynote address by Dr. Abdulmaula Hamza from the University of Tripoli, Libya, a Professor in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Education. Mr. Cornelius Anuar Abdullah McAfee, director of the International Centre, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Terengganu, also gave a welcome address and touched on the finer points of writing good essays.
Students aged 12 to 18 years from all over the world are encouraged to submit entries to this year’s competition with the theme: Conserving our Marine Heritage: Sea Turtles – A Global Perspective. Click (here to view categories).
The competition challenges students to learn more about sea turtles and the threats they face and to use their creativity to express their views about the importance of nature conservation. Residents from countries where sea turtles are not native can also take part, and may obtain relevant material from the internet as well as books, journals, and documentaries on wildlife.
